Betty Ballard Obituary

Betty Ann Ballard COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Mrs. Betty Ann Sweat Ballard, 79, a resident of Katie Lane, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009. Born Nov. 30, 1930, in Norfolk, she was daughter of the late Ernest and Ella Kitchens Sweat and wife of Stan Ballard. Betty Ann was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. She sang with the Sweet Adelines and once served as the president of the Nashville chapter. When she met people, she addressed them as "Precious." In her younger days, she taught ballroom and tap dancing. While she and her husband moved a total of 23 times, she was an active member in the Methodist Church throughout her life. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mark (Jennifer) Ballard of Columbia; granddaughter, Nicole Ballard of Columbia. A funeral for Mrs. Ballard will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Riverside United Methodist Church, Columbia. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the church. Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1864, Columbia, TN 38402 or 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

We send our deepest sympathy to you and your family We all ioved Betty Ann here at the Pier. She had such great style and spirit and always fun to be with. We are unable to attend the buriel as we are going to Les Abbotts funeral (Pier resident) today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Barbara and Kenneth Fulp
