Wilbur Dozier

Wilbur Dozier CHESAPEAKE - Wilbur "Red" Dozier, 86, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009. He was born in Norfolk County, Aug. 16, 1922, the son of the late Thomas L. and Grace Nichols Dozier. He was a 1940 graduate of Great Bridge High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1941, served in Operation Torch, and survived the sinking of his ship the USS Joseph Hewes. He retired from Sun Oil Co. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon; brother, Elsworth Dozier; and grandson, U.S. Army SSG Jonathan Dozier. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marian Lang Dozier; sons, Carl M. and wife Jean and Thomas A. and wife Francine; grandchildren, Jennifer Rider and husband Jamey, Courtney Dozier, Travis Dozier; and five great-grandchildren. "Red" was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose family meant everything to him. He was a charter member of Great Bridge Baptist Church and he was a lifetime member of the VFW and the DAV. He will be greatly missed by all. Friends are invited to gather with the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 25, in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Chaplain Steve Feehan will officiate.
