Rita Skopal

Rita V. Skopal VIRGINIA BEACH - With her loving family by her side, Rita V. Peebles Skopal, 88, entered into eternal life June 24, 2009. Rita was born and raised in Chicago and lived in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always there for each with her gracious smile and warm hug. She was also a devoted volunteer for her church and community. Rita is survived by her sister, Sr. V. Joan Peebles, B.V.M. of Dubuque, Iowa; her children, Thomas E. Skopal of Bethlehem, Pa., Sr. Mary R. Skopal, S.S.J. of Baltimore, Catherine Colleran and Edward Stuart of Arlington Heights, Ill., Patricia Skopal Shyne Grant and Richard Grant of Alexandria, Va., Edward W. Skopal Sr. and Patricia of Virginia Beach, James R. Skopal and Georgia of Houston, Texas and Joan L. Skopal of Durango, Colo.; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and -nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30, at noon followed by Mass at 1 p.m. in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1396 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Interment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sisters of Saint Joseph, Development Office, 9701 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the American Cancer Society.
