Roy Forney Obituary

Roy Forney KILL DEVIL HILLS - Roy Forney, 75, left this life to be with his Lord early Saturday, June 27, 2009, after a battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Claudette; a daughter, Kimberly and husband Patrick of Lawton, Okla.; his sons, Kenneth of Imperial Beach, Calif., Garry and wife Susan of Calimesa, Calif., Barry and wife Maracella of El Centro, Calif., Daniel and wife Kimberly of Winnemucca, Nev.; and grandsons and granddaughters who were his pride and joy. Roy was born in Alliance, Ohio, and before moving to Kill Devil Hills, was an independent milkman in the Ravenna and Canton, Ohio, areas. He also proudly served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. Until his illness, Roy was a painter. He was also a member of the Kill Devil Hills Fire Support Unit for 14 years, and cherished every moment of it. He was also a member of the Colington United Methodist Church which was such a comfort to him. His church family gave him support and prayers throughout his illness. Roy's final wish for no services will be honored as well as his wish to be cremated and for his last resting place to be the ocean he dearly loved. The following poem was Roy's last expression to his family and friends: "When I come at last to the end of the road. And the sun has set for me, I want no rite in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long - not with a head bowed low. Remember the love that we have shared miss me but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, and each must go alone. It's all part of a master plan - a step on the road to go home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, go to the ocean we know, and bury your sorrow among the waves. Miss me, love me, but let me go." In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Colington United Methodist Church or the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department. Condolences to the Forney family may be sent via the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services Inc. is entrusted with arrangements.

We are greatly saddened by Roy's death. We worked with him for years and considered him a valued friend. He was always "Uncle Roy" to us. He will be in our hearts always. Our deep condolences to the family, especially Claudette who was also a dear friend.
