John Mullins Obituary

John Mullins Jr. NORFOLK - John Mullins Jr., 73, of Commodore Park, died suddenly June 29, 2009, in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center after a morning of his favorite pastime - tinkering in his garage. "Jack" was born in West Portsmouth, Ohio, and moved to Norfolk with Norfolk Southern Railway in 1983. He retired after 31 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shelby; five daughters, Lisa Demint and Sonny of Piketon, Ohio, Jackie and Ron Morgan of Lockbourne, Ohio, Rhonda Frey of Norfolk, Paula Phillips and Shawn of Camden, N.C., and April and Greg Pingree of South Mills, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Aaron, T.D., Megan, Kyle, Josh, John and Grandpa's girl, Riley; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn; and three sisters, Mary, Dube and Betty, all of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Winnifred Mullins; brother, James Ray; and two grandsons, Adam and Austin Demint. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, at the First Church of God, Anderson at 8100 Granby St., with Pastor Ben Stoltz and Dennis McGown officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
