Evelyn Grant Obituary

Evelyn Grant VIRGINIA BEACH - Mrs. Evelyn Grant, 90, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 28, 2009. She was born May 27, 1919, to the late Shields and Linda Bowles. She was born and raised in the Norfolk area and married to George W. Grant Jr. on Aug. 30, 1940. She was a member of Fox Hall Baptist Church which is now known as Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she worked for more than 25 years in the children's department. She was also retired from J.C. Penney after a number of years. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Grant Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce G. Halstead and her husband E. Leonard; two grandchildren, Trevor G. Halstead and his wife Virginia and Lisa M. Halstead; and two great-granddaughters, Emily and Natalie; and sisters, Ruby Jeter and Betty Ann Hewett. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, with the Rev. Fred Braswell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church Children's Department. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.woodlawngroup.com.
