Harold Mansfield Obituary

Harold T. Mansfield CHESAPEAKE - Harold Thomas "H.T." Mansfield, 81, entered into eternal rest June 27, 2009. Born in 1927 in Hertford, N.C., H.T. was the son of the late Irvin T. Mansfield and the late Lillian A. Mansfield and was the husband of 54 years to Dorothy "Dot" Mansfield who survives. H.T. also leaves his son, Mark T. Mansfield and his wife Jill Mansfield of Chesapeake and his son, Bruce E. Mansfield and his wife Kelly Mansfield of Virginia Beach along with two grandsons, Brian Mansfield and Neal Mansfield; one granddaughter, Molly Mansfield; a sister, Ann M. Unruh and family of Portland, Ore., and numerous relatives in North Carolina and Virginia to honor his name. H.T. fought for the values of our country in World War II and the freedoms that we enjoy today. H.T. retired from the Ford Motor Company Norfolk Area Assembly Plant in 1988 with 37 years of loyal service. He began his career on the assembly line and advanced to the position of millwright while also serving as committeeman and president of the United Auto Workers Local 919. After retiring, H.T. resumed relationships with family and friends in North Carolina where his ashes will be placed. H.T. was well known for his woodworking skills and many of his pieces can be found in the homes of family and friends. H.T. was a member of Indian River Baptist Church in Chesapeake. "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures." Proverbs 23:3-4. Oman Funeral Home is handling cremation arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be made to diabetes research. Rest peacefully, H.T., good and faithful servant.
