Betty Whittle Obituary

Betty J. Whittle VIRGINIA BEACH - Betty Joyce Whittle, 86, went to be with the Lord July 4, 2009. She was born Aug. 15, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Veda Miller. Her husband of 59 years, Eugene R. Whittle, passed away Sept. 1, 2008. Betty Joyce's sister, Sunny Bennett, predeceased her. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame, Calif. Betty Joyce will be remembered as a loving parent and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. Everyone who knew her loved her. Betty Joyce is survived by two daughters, Christine Whittle and Sally Starr and her husband Anthony, both of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Senior Airman Jennifer Starr and First Class Airman Michael Starr, both serving in the U.S. Air Force; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Martineau of Muscatine, Iowa, John Miller and his wife Marcella of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dr. Harold Miller and his wife Patricia of Eire, Colo.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 10 a.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Harold Miller officiating. A service of remembrance for Betty Joyce will also be held at Harbour Lounge at Atlantic Shores Retirement Community from noon till 2 p.m. following services at the cemetery. Her daughters wish to acknowledge the exceptionally attentive, loving and compassionate support provided by the nurses, CNAs and staff of her extended family at Seaside Healthcare at Atlantic Shores in Virginia Beach. The family extends a special thank you to Sentara Chaplain Chris Fosback for his special Tuesday morning prayers and sharing of hymns. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Baptist Mid-Missions c/o Dr. Harold Miller, P.O. Box 308011 Cleveland, OH 44130-8011.
