Katie Griffin Obituary

Katie H. Griffin COLUMBIA, S.C. - Katie Harris Griffin, 92, died Saturday, July 11, 2009. Mrs. Griffin, a native and longtime resident of Pitt County, was a graduate of Pactolus School. She made her home in Greenville where she was married to Ezra D. Griffin Sr. for 43 years. She was employed by Union Carbide Corporation where she retired after 31 years of service. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Since 1999, she has resided in Columbia, S.C. She enjoyed being in the outdoors doing all types of gardening and yard work. She was also an avid walker who was well known in her neighborhood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra D. Griffin Sr.; a son, E. Daniel Griffin Jr., M.D.; three sisters, Mattie H. Briley, Minnie H. Bullock and Nellie Rae Harris; and one brother, H.B. Harris Jr. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Elaine G. Wiseman and William J. Wiseman of Portsmouth; son and daughter- in-law, Jerry W. Griffin and Susan M. Griffin of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren, Ashley G. Hollar and D. Tripp Griffin of Charlotte, N.C., Katie E. Wiseman of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Vicki E. Wiseman of Portsmouth and Marykate C. Griffin and Mitchell M. Griffin of Columbia, S.C.; three great- grandsons, Harris P., Griffin M. and Mason W. Hollar, all of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Blanche H. Briley, Louise H. House and Martha H. Ward, all of Greenville. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today 7 to 9 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, 2426 South Charles Blvd., Greenville, N.C. 27858. The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to the staff at Wildewood Downs Retirement Center for the outstanding care they gave to "Miss Katie."
