Peggy Brown Bryson VIRGINIA BEACH - Peggy Brown Bryson, 78, passed away peacefully July 14, 2009, in a local hospital. She was born in Traphill, N.C., to Bert and Hattie Brown. She attended Traphill Elementary and Traphill High School. She completed Junior College in Spartanburg, S.C., and completed her B.S. degree at Berea College, Ky., in elementary education. She received her master's degree in special education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She was an elementary and special education teacher for many years before becoming the principal of several elementary schools in the Virginia Beach school system. She was the first principal of the Center for Effective Learning and Trantwood Elementary. She also worked in the personnel office for the Virginia Beach school system. She cared deeply for all the children she taught and loved her profession dearly. She made a significant contribution to the lives of many individuals. She was a positive role model and mentor to many. She was a great lover of travel, books, music, and the fine arts. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William G. Bryson; a daughter, Becky Proaps; two grandchildren, Alexandra and M.G.; and three cats and a dog whom she considered her great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are close relatives and friends too numerous to list. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for their compassion and caring. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, located at 1264 N. Great Neck Road, Monday, July 20. Visitation will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. which Dr. Scottie Griffin of Lynnhaven Presbyterian Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation: online at multiplemyeloma.org or mail to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., 5th floor, Norwalk, CT 06851.

For some reason I felt the need to sign Peg's guest book today. I loved her like a sister and miss our long late night (early morning) phone conversations. Some nights we solved the world's problems and other times we just gabbed. I do hope that Clark is with her and that they are both watching over the one's they love. And I know that Hattie is with them too. I feel really close to them and that gives me a kind of peace.

My love you, M.G., Alex and Jack

I am so sorry for your Mom's passing, Becky. I met her a couple times while we were in college and she reminded me of you. I understand how you must be feeling. Each day gets better, but life is never the same without your mother. Love to you, your Dad and your children.
