Catherine Novotny Obituary

Catherine E. Novotny PORTSMOUTH - Catherine Elizabeth Reagan "Kitty" Novotny died July 16, 2009, in her home surrounded by her family. Kitty was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late John Francis Reagan Jr. and Mary Helen Bannon Reagan. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and retired from the Occupational Health Department of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. She was a member of the Myrtle Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame, the National Boppers Hall of Fame in Jacksonville, Fla., and had served on the board of directors and was an inductee of the Virginia Shaggers Hall of Fame and the Virginia National Living Legends for dancing. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bert J. Novotny Jr.; six children, Stan Majkut and wife Pam of Virginia Beach, Larry May and wife Carol of Gainesville, Va., Colleen Dore and husband Steve of Portsmouth, Jeannie Monk and husband John of Chesapeake, Cathy Sharrett and husband Brian of Chesapeake, Bert J. Novotny III of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Patricia. A Christian wake will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, in St. Paul's Catholic Church by the Rev. Michael Boehling. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters or to a charity of choice.
