Dorothy Brickhouse Obituary

Dorothy C. Brickhouse COLUMBIA - Mrs. Dorothy Cahoon Brickhouse, 92, died Monday, July 27, 2009, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk. Born Feb. 5, 1917, in Tyrrell County, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. Cahoon and Hattie McDaniel Cahoon and preceded in death by her husbands, Rudolph Spencer, Raymond Lanier and Henry Brickhouse; daughters, Janice Lanier and Delories Rose; brothers, Maurice Cahoon, Horace Cahoon and Rexford Cahoon. Mrs. Brickhouse was a homemaker and member of Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church. Her family includes her daughters, Verna S. Bartholomew and husband Roy of Virginia Beach and Brenda S. Hall of Portsmouth; sons, Donald Lanier of Washington, N.C., and Clarence "Buddy" Brickhouse of Columbia, N.C.; brother, Jimmy Cahoon of Edenton, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren, and 11 great- great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. in Gum Neck Free Will Baptist Church, Columbia, with the Rev. Gerald Perry and Joey Brickhouse officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends today, July 31, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
