Gilbert Light Obituary

Gilbert J. Light CHESAPEAKE - Gilbert Joseph Light, 86, of the 3800 block of White Chapel Arch, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 in his residence. A native of Portsmouth, he was a retired gyro compass mechanic at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Cradock Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a 60-year member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge. His wife, Bonnie Doris Light, preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Donald R. Light and wife Elizabeth of Chesapeake; a daughter- in-law, Margaret Light; seven grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope For Life Rescue, 610 Jack Rabbit Road, Ste. No. 1, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
