Richard Mort Obituary

Richard J. Mort VIRGINIA BEACH - Richard James Mort, 58, of the 1700 block of Pompey St., passed away Aug. 3, 2009 in his home. A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he retired from the United States Navy as a chief petty officer after 22 years of service. He was most recently employed with General Dynamics as a computer technician. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Tompkins Mort of Chesapeake; his sister, Melissa Mort Murphy and her husband Dennis of Luling, La.; two nephews, Joshua Murphy and his wife Michelle of Clovis, N.M., and Justin Murphy of Luling; two great-nieces, Kayleigh Murphy and Karley Murphy; and a great-nephew, Matthew Murphy. He was predeceased by his father, Richard L. Mort. All services will be private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is handling the arrangements.
