Nicholas Pagonis Obituary

Nicholas Joseph Pagonis VIRGINIA BEACH - Nicholas Joseph Pagonis, 65, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital from an on-going illness. Mr. Pagonis was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and grew up in the Queens borough of New York and in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. He was a talented chef and worked as a cook and a painter. He also lived with alcohol addiction, which led to many years of struggle, but he made the best of his circumstances. Mr. Pagonis lived an independent life, however, he said in his last months that he would have done things differently if he had the opportunity. He was a good man and of Catholic faith. Those who knew him well will miss his gentle spirit. Mr. Pagonis was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Wanda Pagonis, who resided in Virginia Beach. He is survived by his sister, Maryanne Dailey of Charlotte, N.C.; his brother, Alex Pagonis, of Clifton, Va.; and his brother and sister-in-law, Freddie and Kay Pagonis, of Warrenton, Va. He also is survived by three nieces, Sarah Dailey and Alexandra Pagonis, both of New York, and Wendy Pagonis of Fairfax, Va. Mr. Pagonis fell in love with only one woman and loved her throughout his life, but he never married. The family requests that friends make a donation to the Virginia Beach SPCA, 3040 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23453, in lieu of flowers and condolences. Mr. Pagonis loved animals and donated money to the SPCA in life. Mr. Pagonis requested that a service not be performed. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest.
