Martha Adams Obituary

Martha D. Adams CHESAPEAKE - Martha Jane Dowdy Adams, 84, went home to be with her heavenly Father Aug. 12, 2009. She was a longtime resident of Portsmouth where she was born. Martha loved her God and her church, Calvary Baptist, where she taught children in Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She was full-time mother who loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She was the widow of Charlie W. Adams Jr., who was her loving husband of almost 60 years. She is survived by two daughters, Gayle A. Palmer and husband Phillip of Chesapeake, where she resided, and Janice A. Agnew and husband George of Axton, Va.; two granddaughters, Brenda P. Decker and husband Stephen of Valdese, N.C., and Lynette P. Watkins and husband Daniel of Kingsport, Tenn.; two grandson, Charlie M. Agnew and wife Jackie of Cochran, Ga., and David A. Agnew and wife Amanda of Axton; nine great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Watkins, Caleb, Dana and Elizabeth Decker, Katelin, T.J., Danielle, and Ben Agnew. Her funeral will be at Calvary Baptist Church Friday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Philip Parker and the Rev. George Agnew officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Loving Funeral Home today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The family wishes to thank Bon Secours Hospice for their loving care of their mother. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. Condolences may be made at www.LovingFuneralHome.com.
