Clarice Collier Obituary

Clarice S. Collier NORFOLK - Clarice Yvonne Sharrett Collier, 77, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Perry Hospital in Perry, Ga. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in Chesapeake, with the Rev. Bernard Collier officiating. Interment will be on her birthday, March 20, 2010. The family suggests donations to Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, 4177 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Ms. Collier was born in Appalachia, Va., to the late Hale Sr. and Cleo Harrigan Sharrett. A member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in Chesapeake, she was active in the Ladies' Prayer Circle. She spent the last year of her life at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Home for the Aged in Perry, Ga., having moved there from Norfolk, where she lived for 55 years. She was the widow of Lonnie F. Collier Jr., to whom she was married for 27 years. Ms. Collier was an Avon sales representative for 35 years, and was a member of the Avon President's Club. She also worked as an administrative assistant for the U.S. Department of the Navy for 15 years. She was known for her love of butterflies and beautiful violets. She was very devoted to her family especially her grand- and great-grandchildren, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by two sisters, M. Kathleen Sharrett and Ruby Baker; and three brothers, Scott D. Sharrett, John Harrigan Sharrett, and Owen A. Sharrett. Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving daughters, Yvonda Collier Schlegel (Harold) and Katharine Collier Walters (Todd), both of Chesapeake; her brother, H.D. Sharrett of Appalachia; and her sister, Betty Chloe Bolling of Wise; and many nieces and nephews. "Mema" will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Beth Rogers (Matthew) and Meredith Dawn Williamson (Derrick); and her great-grandchildren, Mason, Morgan and Reid Rogers. Mrs. Callier was one of the people everyone hopes to have in their life, and we were lucky to have her in our lives. She was an amazing person who left a huge impression on me. Mrs. Callier will be missed but never forgotten.

I can't even remember how many years it has been since I saw Aunt Yvonne. What I do remember is her how sweet her voice was when she spoke, how pretty she was when she smiled and what a kind and loving person she was.
