Fay Scudder Obituary

Fay K. Scudder KILL DEVIL HILLS - Fay K. Scudder, 76, passed away Aug. 10, 2009. She was born in Rocky Mount, to the late Robert Twining Kirkbride and Gladys MacGowan Kirkbride. She attended George School, a Friends (Quaker) School in Newtown, Pa., and then the University of Pennsylvania. She is survived by her five children, Hervey C. Scudder IV and his wife Linda Kellc of Birdsboro, Pa., Heather S. Burd and her husband Robert of Titusville, N.J., Jocelyn S. Midgette and her husband Michael of Kill Devil Hills, Elizabeth S. Van Brunt and her husband Michael of Bernardsville, N.J., and Sara Twining Scudder of Basking Ridge, N.J.; as well as nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Kirkbride Cooper and her husband Graham of Delaware and three nephews. Fay was an active member of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head. She was a past member of the vestry, a choir member, a charter member of Daughters of the King, and involved in the prayer shawl ministry, the prison ministry and the Woman's Bible Study. She was a longtime employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and later worked at the Dare County Tourist Bureau in Manteo. Fay will be missed by those who loved her. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of St. Andrews By the Sea in Nags Head and a reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to St. Andrews by the Sea, P.O. Box 445, Nags Head, NC 27959, or Feline Hope, P.O. Box 893, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949. Fay, I remember the good times we had at St. Andrew's. Tell Gene I said hello and that I miss him very much. You two can remineise the times at the Tourist Bureau. I know you both rest in peace and are free of your pain and suffering. THANKS BE TO GOD! Till we meet again. Marilyn O'Bleness
