Ricardo Gomez Obituary

Ricardo A. Gomez VIRGINIA BEACH - Ricardo A. Gomez, 75, of Virginia Beach, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009. He was born on July 10, 1934, in Doylestown, Pa. At the age of 5, his family moved to Cuba where he lived until the age of 18. He returned to the United States and joined the U.S. Army where he served two tours in Korea, two tours in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, and had assignments in Iceland and Germany. He also was an instructor at Bahia de Cochinos in Cuba and served in the jungles of Panama. After an illustrious 20 years career in the U.S. Army, he retired and went to work for Chrysler International in Madrid, Spain. Later, he worked for BMW in York, Pa., and was assigned to Masjid-i-Sulaiman (MIS) in Iran. After the fall of the Shah of Iran, he returned to the United States. He is survived by his lovely wife of 40 years, Carmen Rivera; brother, Alfred and sister-in-law Esperanza from the Dominican Republic; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hare of Bowling Green, Ky. Services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2208 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456-3536. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling the arrangements.

Ricardo was a wonderful man.My family enjoyed sharing Thanksgiving with he & Carmen and his gravy making will certainly be missed!

Ricardo had a contagious laugh and was always sharing his stories. His love will be missed, but his memories will continue to serve as the strength to keep moving during this difficult time.
