Shirley Fantone Obituary

Shirley Phillips Fantone VIRGINIA BEACH - Shirley Phillips Fantone passed away peacefully at her home on Bayberry Street surrounded by her family Aug. 17, 2009. She was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Feb. 24, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Henry Woodfin Phillips Jr. and Inez Ardrey Phillips Bowe. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Donald T. Fantone Sr.; her sons, Donald T. Fantone Jr., and Philip W. Fantone; her sister, Mildred P. (Nancy) Redfern; and brother, Henry Woodfin Phillips III. She was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church since 1942, where she was married by Father Philip Brennan. She was a former member of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons, Seaweeds Circle, and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by her brothers, William D. Phillips of LaCrescenta, Calif., and Samuel C. Phillips of St. Augustine, Fla.; her children, Shirley F. Adams and Michael D. Fantone of Virginia Beach, Margaret R. Fantone of Ashburn, Va.; her grandchildren, Dean Fantone, Tony Fantone, Alex Adams, Sarah Rouse, and Elizabeth Fowler; and her great-grandchildren, Elaine, Emma and Ella Fantone, Tony Jr. and Baylor Fantone, Jack and Lily Rouse, Eric, Sam and Kate Fowler, all of Virginia Beach. We would like the thank Sentara Hospice for their wonderful care, especially Linda Kenney, RN, mother's nurse. A funeral will be conducted at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Friday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. by Father Joseph Slattery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. The burial will be at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery where she will be buried next to the love of her life. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hdoliver.com.

Sis, I remember so many fun, fun times together with my cousins at Aunt Shirley and Uncle Donald's house. All of you children did an, unselfish and awesome job caring for your mother, keeping her in the arms of her family. God Bless all of You!
