Helen LaRue Whitley Cox

LaRue W. Cox VIRGINIA BEACH - Helen LaRue Whitley Cox, 66, of the 100 block of Upperville Road, went to be with the Lord Aug. 20, 2009, in her home surrounded by her family. A native of Princess Anne County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond L. and Jessie Hazel Curry Whitley. She retired from WAVY-TV 10 as the Engineering Operations supervisor after 21 years of service and was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Audio-Visual Committee and was a member of the Rehoboth Bible Class. Surviving are three children, Debbie Hatchell Speight and her husband Jimmy of Virginia Beach, James Nelson Hatchell Jr. and his wife Audrey of Virginia Beach and Virginia Hatchell Loeffler and her husband Bob of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Courtney Speight Smith and her husband Ben, Holly Michelle Speight, Kendall Brooke Speight, James Mason Hatchell and Ashton Mae Hatchell; one great-grandson, Gunnar Thomas Smith; a sister, Joyce Whitley Meeks of Virginia Beach; and cousins, three nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Whitley Lawrence. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Kempsville Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, with Dr. Kelly Burris officiating. The burial will follow in Nimmo United Methodist Church Cemetery, Virginia Beach.
