Lena S. Tarkenton

Lena S. Tarkenton CHESAPEAKE - Lena Spickard Tarkenton, 82, of the 1000 block of Brookedale Court, went to be with the Lord Aug. 25, 2009, in Asheville, N.C. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who in later years was known as "Mema" to all who loved her. A native of Botetourt County, Virginia, she was the wife of the late Robert Edward Tarkenton Sr. and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Chesapeake. Surviving are five children, Eddie Tarkenton and his wife Vickie and Al Tarkenton and his wife Debbie, all of Virginia Beach, Dickie Tarkenton of Portsmouth, and Ann Hubbard and her husband, Kim and Shirley Sanders and her husband Richard, all of Chesapeake; a sister, Betty Meador of Blue Ridge, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1832 Elbow Road, Chesapeake, Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Reggie Hester officiating.
