Janis Korlann Krebs

Janis Korlann Krebs VIRGINIA BEACH - Janis Korlann Krebs, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Aug. 23, 2009, in Virginia Beach. She died peacefully surrounded by her children and her extended family. Janis graduated from Grant High School in Portland, Ore., and was a Rose Festival Princess her senior year. Following study at Oregon State University, Janis returned to Portland to work during World War II. It was there she met Bob Krebs on a blind date arranged by her Theta sorority sister and future sister-in-law, Meg Krebs. Bob, a 1945 graduate of West Point, knew immediately that Janis was his love. Janis and Bob were married for almost 50 years prior to his passing. During her married life, Janis lived in many exciting places. She and Bob began their married life in the Philippines. Shortly after their return to the United States, their daughter Jan was born in Washington, D.C. That assignment was followed by a tour in Madrid, Spain, during which time sons Rob and Bill were born: Rob in Spain and Bill in Germany. Thus began a life that held many wonderful experiences overseas and in the United States. Janis was truly the consummate Army wife! In recent years, Janis lived at Atlantic Shores Retirement Community in Virginia Beach as she continued to enjoy her friends and family. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, an avid reader, a bridge and tennis player, and a devoted friend. She continued to travel, visiting a number of countries where she relished the new experiences and exposure to unique cultures and people. Janis is survived by her children and their families: in Norfolk, Janis and Bill Smith and their children, Ben Smith and Laura Guyot; in Virginia Beach, Rob and Ann Krebs and their children, Stephanie De Falco and Beth Krebs; and in Greensboro, N.C., Bill and Sarah Krebs and their children, William, Turner and Kathryn Krebs. She is also survived by three great- grandchildren; and in Oregon, her sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Don Francis; her sister-in-law, Margaret Krebs Brockway; seven nieces and nephews. Janis' family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Seaside Healthcare Center and the staff of Heartland Hospice for their kind and heartfelt service - they were truly blessings ! A memorial service celebrating Janis' life will be held at Atlantic Shores Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. Private burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, your local hospice organization, or to the Judeo Christian Outreach Center in Virginia Beach.
