John Wallace Obituary

John C. Wallace Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - John Clifton Wallace Sr. of the 5400 block of Peggy Circle was called to his heavenly home to be with the Lord Aug. 24, 2009. "Big John" was born in Anderson, S.C., April 10, 1921, to the late George and Eddie Lou Wallace. He was predeceased in death by his beautiful wife, Eldora T. Wallace, and sister, Evelyn Webb. He is survived by his nine loving children: Patricia Wallace, Delta W. Clemmons, John C. Wallace Jr., David O. Wallace, Michael E. Wallace, Nicholas P. Wallace (Carolyn), Joseph L. Wallace, Elizabeth W. Fowler, and Cheryll W. Sumner (Phenix); his brother, William Wallace and sister, Beatrice W. Mitchell; 21 loving grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was drafted in 1942 and was a veteran of World War II. He trained at Fort Polk, La., and served in New Guinea and the Philippines and was honorable discharged in 1946. He attended Norfolk State College and studied television repair. He retired from Norfolk Naval Supply Center after 32 years of services with the federal government. His viewing will be at Hale Funeral Home, 2100 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, from noon to 8 p.m. Friday. A homegoing celebration will take place Saturday at New St. John AME Church, Virginia Beach, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. www.halefuneralhome.com.
