George Mayo Obituary

George W. Mayo VIRGINIA BEACH - George W. Mayo, 91, formerly of Avalon Hills, passed away Aug. 31, 2009 in Oakwood Nursing Home. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Margaret Mayo and the widower of Elsa F. Mayo. He retired from Prices Inc. as a salesman. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 266 AF&AM. He is survived by his son, Larry L. Mayo of Virginia Beach and daughter, Dolly M. Hinton and her husband Ray of Newport News; two daughters- in-law, Marilyn Mayo and Christy Mayo; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, George W. Mayo Jr. and John Scott Mayo; two sisters, Ethel Daughtry and Norma Belvin; and three brothers, Jim Mayo, Edward F. Mayo and Harry C. Mayo Jr. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Colley Avenue, Norfolk, with the Rev. James Blalock officiating. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
