Michael Allen Obituary

Michael D. Allen CHESAPEAKE - Michael Dewitt Allen, 61, passed from this life surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer Sept. 3, 2009, at his home. Mr. Allen was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Mary Perner and Charles Dewitt Allen Jr. He received a B.A. from Texas Christian University, a master's of education from North Texas State University, and a master's of science in management from Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy for more than 17 years. In addition to his Naval career, Mr. Allen was a high school teacher and coach for nine years and a government service technician for eight years. He was a member and an elder of Chesapeake Church of Christ. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Arlene Allen; daughter, Reagan Marie Tiffany and husband Brian of Camden, N.C.; son, Colby Marshall Allen and wife Holley of Shelbyville, Ky.; brother, Jon Perner Allen and wife Barbara of Texas; stepfather, Jon C. Daniels of Virginia Beach; stepbrother, Michael Daniels and wife Franny of Virginia Beach; cherished grandchildren, Michaela Marie Tiffany, Cade Cameron Tiffany, McKenna Jenelle Tiffany, Logan Marshall Allen, Jocelyn Renee Allen and Kylee Grace Allen; nine nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Chesapeake Church of Christ Monday at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the funeral immediately following. Burial will follow with military honors Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery. Minister Jerry Reynolds will be officiating. Twiford's Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is handling arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the church.
