Laura Foote Obituary

Laura W. Foote VIRGINIA BEACH - Laura Withers Foote, 76, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia in Westminster- Canterbury Sept. 4, 2009. Born in Danville, Va., she later moved to Washington, D.C., and graduated from Mount Vernon College for Women, now known as Georgetown University. She later married her husband Capt. Everett Foote, U.S. Navy retired, on Sept. 1, 1956 after his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. They traveled extensively, and she followed her husband all over the country wherever duty called. She loved her garden and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach for 28 years. She was a good wife and a wonderful mother who will be deeply missed. Besides her husband, she is also survived by two daughters, who she was so proud of for earning master's degrees, Carrie Carroll and her husband Ward and Elizabeth White and her husband Scott, all of Maryland; a brother-in-law, John Foote of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren, Hunton, Reid, Spencer and Grace, also of Maryland. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Westminster-Canterbury Holy Trinity Chapel at 3 p.m. and a reception will follow in the Bayview Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, 36th St. and Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.

Dear Carrie and family,

My deepest sympathies for you all. I was honored to know your mother during my teen age years and have her grace and beauty be an example for me to follow. She was a beacon for so many and I'm proud to have had the chance to have her light in my life.

I have such fond memories of our times in Virginia Beach and your wonderful mother will always be a part of that for me.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Carolyn Maher
