Marion Watson Obituary

Marion Barnes Watson VIRGINIA BEACH - Marion Barnes Watson, 76, resident of the Atria Retirement Home in Virginia Beach, passed peacefully away into the arms of her Lord Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Ellen Barnes. She was a member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Marion was predeceased by two husbands, William H. Shipp Jr. and Allen C. Watson. She is survived by her son, William H. Shipp III and wife Kathy; a stepson, Bruce A. Merrill and wife Karen; two brothers, Leonard Barnes and wife Virginia and Walter E. Barnes and wife Anita; one grandson, Brandon Tudor Shipp; one stepgrandson, Phillip Merrill; one stepgranddaughter, Stuart Merrill; many nieces and nephews. She worked many years for V.H. Monette & Co. in Smithfield, Va., and later retired after 18 years as a sales representative for Hanes Hosiery. Marion was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and a genuine friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was an amazing lady and will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she so lovingly touched. The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Marion's caregivers, who so kindly cared for her in her last days, especially Angela Gregory and Monique Willoughby. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Keith Curran after which the family will receive friends until 2:30 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1885 Bridge Road, Suffolk, VA 23433 or the charity of your choice.
