Donald Stokes Obituary

Donald Stokes PORTSMOUTH - Capt. Donald Stokes, 76, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was a native of Greenville, N.C., a Catholic, a member of VFW and The Moose Lodge. Mr. Stokes served 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Stokes is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anna Stokes; four children, Teresa Crum and her husband Joe of Chesapeake, Kent Stokes and his wife Mary of Portsmouth, Lori Davis and her husband Vic of Chesapeake, and Jeff Stokes of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren, Joe, Jon, and Justin Crum, Donnie Stokes, Angela Novinger, Jake and Jamie Fuller, Chris and Cory Davis; a great-granddaughter, Skylar Stokes; a sister, Barbara Fischer and her husband Mike; two brothers, Billy Stokes and his wife Nancy and Darnell Stokes and his wife Eileen. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, with full military honors. The family will receive friends in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, today from 6 to 7 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
