Nita Brown Obituary

Nita Newbold Brown HERTFORD - Nita Newbold Brown peacefully passed away in her home in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Aug. 24, 2009, at the age of 86. Nita was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Hertford, N.C., to the late John Henry and Nita White Newbold. Nita was a much loved wife and mother who dedicated her life to her family, her gardens, and her home, Northside Valley. Nita always exemplified Southern graciousness to all she met. Nita loved life to its fullest and will be dearly remembered by a large, loving family. Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Phillip Brown of St. Croix. Nita is also survived by eight children, Martha Haase and her husband Bill, Thomas Miller and his wife Catalina, Jeane Miller and her husband Allen, Leah Brown, Phillip Brown Jr. and his wife Nancy, Virginia Vandeveer and her husband John, Jane Brown, and Nita Maria Brown. She is survived by her beloved sister, Jean Griffin and her husband Edward of Hertford. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hertford Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 125, Hertford, NC 27944.
