Nancy Dodson Obituary

Nancy Bryant Dodson SMITHFIELD - Nancy Bryant Dodson, 90, of Smithfield, passed away Sept. 19, 2009. She was born in Isle of Wight County, the daughter of the late George Grover Bryant and Georgie Hall Bryant. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Scott Dodson and daughter, Nancy Dodson Mears. Nancy was a graduate of Longwood College and later went on to retire as a school teacher from Isle of Wight County Public Schools. She was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school. Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Scott Dodson Jr. and Ouida Dodson of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Christopher Mears, Bryant Dodson and Hunter Dodson; sister, Elizabeth B. Winslow of Chester, Va.; and nieces, Beth Butner and Ann Winslow both of Chester. A graveside service will be held Monday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Memorial Park in Smithfield with Dr. Don Rhoton officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431 or Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 117, Smithfield, VA 23431. Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, Suffolk, is serving the family. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
