Mildred Baker Obituary

Mildred Baker PORTSMOUTH - Mildred Baker, 84, of the 2800 block of Deep Creek Blvd., Portsmouth, passed away Sept. 23, 2009, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Mildred was a former member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church and attended Fairwood Agape Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Emma Lee Jones, Rosa L. Harris, Mildred Weathers (Elmore), Pattie Braswell (Charlie) and Salinda L. Patterson (Lionel); five sons, Floyd Smith (Mary), Freddie Baker (Martha), Linwood Baker, Joe Baker and Sugar Ray Baker; 28 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, James Baker Jr.; a son, Calvin Smith Jones and a son-in-law, Robert Jones. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in New First Baptist Church-Taylorsville, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Steele-Bullock Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Viewing will be held today from noon to 6 p.m. with a wake from 5 to 6 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 1514 Mount Vernon Avenue at 10:15 a.m. for the procession to the church.
