Barry O'Neal Obituary

Barry E. O'Neal VIRGINIA BEACH - Barry E. O'Neal, 47, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, following a long battle with a brain tumor at the home of his mother surrounded by his family. He was born in Portsmouth. Barry was a graduate of First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach. He was a carpenter; he and his brother Darryl owned and operated the former D&B Construction before his illness. He will always be remembered for his compassion and his ability to overcome. Barry is survived by his loving family: mother, Rachel P. Smeland of Norfolk; father, Douglas E. O'Neal and stepmother Mary Z. O'Neal of Cape Carteret, N.C.; brother, Darryl O'Neal of Virginia Beach; sister, Dina Willoughby and husband Jerry of Virginia Beach; stepbrother, Jimmy Sanderlin and wife Allison of Virginia Beach; stepsister, Linda Stegall and husband Keith of Cape Carteret; stepsister, Karen Kraft and husband Justin of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepbrother, Jeffrey Sanderlin and wife Tonya of Bayonne, N.J.; extended family, Lisa Mason O'Neal of Virginia Beach; nieces and nephews, Dylan Williams, Dalton Williams, Alise O'Neal, Foster Willoughby, Ashley Mason, Amber Mason, Amanda Mason, Elizabeth Stegall, Mary Stegall, Sara Sanderlin, Jimmy Sanderlin III, Madison Sanderlin, Jordan Sanderlin and Tristan Sanderlin. He was predeceased by his loving stepfather, Andrew "Andy" Smeland. He leaves behind many faithful cousins and loyal friends to cherish his memory. A funeral will be conducted Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. The Rev. Thomas Hutton will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
