Robert Horstman Obituary

Robert Wayne Horstman VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert Wayne "Bob" Horstman, 55, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, went home to be with the Lord Sept. 29, 2009. A longtime resident of Virginia Beach, he was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association, Local 1624, where he worked for the past 13 years. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Debra Horstman; son, Jason Horstman; daughter, Katrina Davenport; five grandsons, Dylan, Nicholas, Alexander, Cody and Shane; two sisters, Carol Willoughby and Marilyn Arrage; father-in-law, Charles Campbell; sister-in-law, Linda Meehan; two brothers-in-law, Charles G. Campbell and Kent Campbell; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding him in death were his mother, Joyce Louise Horstman; father, Delbert Henry Horstman; and his mother-in-law, Shirley Campbell. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind and loving heart. His favorite thing to do in life was to listen to his grandson, Dylan, play the guitar. They both loved music and they went to many concerts all over the region together. In tribute to his grandfather, Dylan will be playing one of their favorite songs at the funeral. Bob was a member of Rock Church in Virginia Beach. He gave his heart to the Lord in 1980 and he found great comfort in Him throughout his adult life. His love for God and his family is his legacy. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 3, in Rock Church, 640 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, with burial immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Love and Caring for the Homeless, P.O. Box 10434, Virginia Beach, VA 23450. To celebrate the life of Bob, please visit his Everlasting Memorial at www.mem.com.

Dear Debby,
I am so sorry to hear of your husband's passing from my sister, Darlene. I lost my husband just a couple of years ago and I am all too familiar with the sorrow and emptyness you are feeling. Scot was 58 and, like your husband, much too young to leave this world. I hope you will find solice in knowing he is with the Lord now and it sounds like you have a nice big family to render you support. If you ever want to just talk, please call me anytime (757) 962-5091. It has been a long time since we grew up together on Little Bay Avenue so we can do a lot of catching up. I'd love to see Linda again as well.

Dear Debby,

Don emailed me regarding the death of your husband. I was so sorry to read of your lost, but be assured that one day you will be with him again. My sister, Linda, lost her husband a few years ago. It was shock to lose him, as he was also in his 50's. However, we are not to question why or why not this happened. We can only trust God for each day that he gives us. God bless you, your children, and the grandkids. My thoughts and prayers are with you and, hopefully, we can get together on my next trip to Norfolk.

To my sister with love. You have always taught me that it is 'Thy will, not my will Lord'. Please believe the same at this time for yourself. I pray for your healing in your loss but know that He will lift you up. My love & prayers are said for you and yours that you also will find comfort & peace in His word. I will miss my brother-in-law and I'm thankful for his devotion to you, Christ & family .
