Howard Price Obituary

Howard E. Price GLOUCESTER - Howard E. Price, 73, passed away to the loving arms of his Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at Sentara Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Price; his mother, Fannie Eva Davis; and his brothers, Eric Scott Price and Robert Ronald Price. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Mary Jeanette "Net" L. Price; his children, Johny Price, Chad Price and his wife Jennifer, Carrie Harper and her husband Don, Betty Jordan, Brad Ward and his wife Beth, Karen Borja and her husband Dave, Laura Ward and her husband Scott, Grace Via, Hope Reason and her husband Gary, Daniel Via and his wife Fong, David Via and his wife Patricia; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Price and his wife Cherie and Bill Price and his wife Pat; sister, Jean Green; and many close friends. In his early years, Ed worked at several odd jobs. After graduating from Salem High School in Salem, W.Va., he served his country as an aircraft dispatcher in the U.S. Air Force. He attended several colleges and trade schools, and his work experience was quite diverse. Of all his many accomplishments and job experiences, Ed found his position as engineering technician at NASA Langley Research Center most rewarding. He retired from NASA Langley Research Center after 38 years of dedicated and effective Federal Service in 1998. He was an active member of White Marsh Baptist Church. Ed was a kind-hearted man who had a special gift in working with animals. He enjoyed traveling, working on his computer, and spending time with his family. Ed had a creative mind and could engineer solutions to almost any mechanical problem. He used these gifts to help others throughout his life. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, in Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Scott Pond officiating. Music will be provided by flutist Heather Smith and organist Rusty Taylor. Interment with military honors will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Monday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. In Ed's memory, contributions may be made to the White Marsh Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, P.O. Box 385, White Marsh, VA 23183. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

I had the great pleasure of working with Ed at NASA Langley and am so grateful for the experience of working with such a creative technician. Ed was a true craftsman who I tried to learn as much as possible from. Ed will be greatly missed and I pray for comfort for his family during this difficult time.

Net, we were sorry to hear about Ed's passing. I know in this time of loss you take great comfort in the Lord Jesus and knowing that Ed will live forever by his side. In lieu of flowers we will be sending a contribution to White Marsh Baptist Church Kitchen Fund.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Price and his son, John, while working at Regency Convalescent Center. Despite Mr. Price's situation at the time, he was always willing to "talk shop" with me; he was generous in giving me motors and relays that only men like us could appreciate! My deepest sympathy to the family, and especially John who I know will miss his father very much.

Carrie and Family:
May God give you strength and bring you peace during these most difficult times. Know that the closeness of friends and relatives will make this passing easier to bear. As time passes, tears will dry and memories of life will bring back laughter. A little poem I treasure so much that helped me with the loss of my father:

Memories in My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket
They rattle among the change

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone

Yes, I have memories in my pocket like so much other stuff I keep there
But the treasures I have; is the memories of you that are the most precious.
