James Byrd Obituary

James Allen Byrd Sr. CHESAPEAKE - James Allen Byrd Sr., 58, of the 400 block of Faire Chase, passed away Oct. 7, 2009, in Chesapeake. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Edwin James and Catherine Young Byrd. He was a lead logistic management specialist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was an avid bowler, loved animals and gardening. He is survived by his two sons, James A. and Jason L. Byrd, both of Virginia Beach; his daughter, Lynn Bufka of Kuwait; three sisters, Carolyn Fletcher and husband Ray of Chesapeake, Cathy Ann Thurston and husband Rick of Portland, Maine, and Joyce Ann Bland and husband Mike of Chesapeake; and his loving companion, Iris Bufka of Chesapeake. He is also survived by three aunts, Helen Sherouse of Pensacola, Fla., Clara Lawrence of Virginia Beach and Jane Pillsbury of Norfolk. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Wood officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
