Charlie Redmon Obituary

Charlie L. Redmon WANCHESE - Charlie L. Redmon, 59, passed on to heaven Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Portsmouth, he was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Redmon and Ilene M. Molloy, and by a son, Jeffery "Hayes" Redmon. Mr. Redmon is survived by a daughter, Holly Leonard and husband Keith of Wanchese, N.C.; a son, Charlie S. Redmon of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Betty Ann Redmon of Portsmouth and Linda Molloy and husband James Charlet of Salvo, N.C.; a brother, J. Wayne Redmon and wife Cathy of Carrollton, Va.; a grandson, Victor "Hayes" Wilson; a special sister-in-law, Mary Redmon; two nieces; three nephews; and three great-nieces; and three great-nephews. After leaving high school, Charlie successfully completed the machinist apprentice program with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a former owner/operator of a trucking company, most recently a machinist with Harbor Welding, and was an avid fisherman. One of Charlie's greatest joys was spending time with his family and grandson. After moving to Wanchese he soon discovered that "secret fishing spot" that brought him many peaceful hours. Whether among friends, co-workers, or folks new to the area, Charlie never seemed to know a stranger. He had a cheerful disposition that affected all those around him. He was a loving father who was always willing to stand by his family. A memorial celebration of Charlie's life is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. It will be held at Barefootin' (a rental home) located at 4809 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC 27959. A reception for family and friends will follow at the same location. Flowers are welcomed. Twiford Funeral Homes, Colony Chapel, Manteo, N.C., is assisting the family with arrangements.

To Everyone Who Knew Charlie:

First of all, heartfelt sympathy to all of the family and friends. Our prayers are with you.
I first met Charlie through his sister (Betty) who has been my best buddy since Harry Hunt Junior High School days. Charlie never knew a stranger and always had a smile on his face (more of us should be like him). If you were down or sad, just being around him brightened your day. I'm sure he is up in heaven right now telling a joke or lifting someone's spirit. All who knew him or were related to him are blessed.
Rest in Peace, Charlie - you are finally home.

Charlie was one of my first loves back in Ptown many years ago. I was so sad to hear of his passing. To many of us he will be fondly remembered as "Chuck Red". I could go on and on of the memories my family has of Charlie that always made us laugh. I know you all will miss him forever. Peace
