Jerry Short Obituary

Jerry Allen Short NORFOLK - Jerry Allen Short, 76, previously of the 100 block of Orchard View in Yorktown, passed away peacefully Oct. 11, 2009. He was predeceased by his father, Lester "Speed" Short and stepmother, Louise Austell Short. He was also predeceased by his mother, Myrtle White. Mr. Short is survived by his former wife, Rose Lambert Short of Norfolk; sons, Taylor Allen Short and wife Carrie and Gary Franklin Short of Norfolk; brother, Dale Albert Short and wife Angie of Gastonia; grandsons, Samuel, Bennett and Cooper, all of Norfolk; nephews, Adam Dale Short and wife Andrea of Cary, N.C., Stuart Douglas Short of Shelby, N.C., and Justin David Short of Bethany Beach, Del.; and niece, Sally Short Sochacki and husband Chris of Shelby. Born Feb. 28, 1933, in Hickory, N.C., Mr. Short served in the United States Air Force. A graduate of East Carolina University, he worked in the family boat business in Shelby before joining the General Accounting Office in Richmond. Later, he went to work for the Department of the Army at Fort Monroe, where he worked until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed swimming and boating. He is remembered fondly for his sense of humor and ability to tell a good story. The family welcomes friends to join them for visitation and prayers at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Grace Church, Yorktown, Thursday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. Condolences may be made to the family online at www. hdoliver.com.
