Mildred Gardner Obituary

Mildred M. Gardner MOYOCK - Mildred M. Gardner, 87, died Oct. 15, 2009 at the home of her daughter. Born June 5, 1922 in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Lillie Hendrick Meier. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William; two sisters, Lillie Mae Detterman and Jewel Woods. Mildred was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church for more than 50 years where she lovingly cared for the infants with the nursery of the church. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Jane Summer of Moyock, N.C., Linda and Bill Page of Shawboro, N.C., William N. and Karen Gardner of Bel Alto, Md.; her grandchildren, Audra Doxey, Sheri Connolly and Michael S. Summer; six great-grandchildren; brother Buddy Meier, wife Ruby of Norfolk and three nephews. Also surviving is Ethan Jones whom she loved like a grandson. Service will be 2 p.m. today at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, with Dr. Kelly Burris officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Friends may visit one hour prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to your local American Heart Association or to the Salvation Army.
