David Mapes Obituary

David Harris Mapes CHESAPEAKE - David Harris Mapes, 75, passed away in his home Oct. 20, 2009. He retired from NORSHIPCO after 37 years of devoted service. He served his country in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 464, Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam veterans. On the CB radio, he was known as "Big Dave." Dave is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna; his children, David Mapes and fiancée Rachel Hohmann, Debbie Warren, Danny Mapes and wife Susan, Dianna Thomas and husband John, Darlene Whitesell and fiancé Will Lynch; 10 grandchildren, Lauren and Brittany Price, Michael and Katlyn Thomas, Chris, Brandi, Ali and Danny "DJ" Mapes, John Warren III, and Haley Whitesell. A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. You may visit Dave's memorial at www.mem.com and send tributes to the family.
