Morris Nimmo Obituary

Morris H. Nimmo SUFFOLK - Morris Howard Nimmo, 80, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009. Born March 30, 1929 in Memphis, Tenn., he was the son of the late Maude Jean Cochran and Lester Howard Nimmo. His daughter, Rebecca Ann Nimmo, preceded him in death. Morris was a 1953 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in electrical engineering, and served his country with honor in this field in the U.S. Army. He later retired as an engineer from the U.S. Patent office after working as a chief patent examiner. Morris was a member of Eta Kappa Nu Association of electrical engineers, and held the amateur radio call sign WA2WSF. He was a deacon at his churches in Smithtown, N.Y., and Gaithersburg, Md., was a member of Stephen Ministry, and was currently a member of Suffolk Presbyterian Church. An avid photographer, he also enjoyed piano playing and ballroom dancing. Morris is survived by his loving family including his wife of 54 years, Mildred Ann Dabney Nimmo; two sons, Stephen Howard Nimmo and wife Kathryn of Pittsburgh, Pa., Dale Edward Nimmo and wife Carol of Wake Forest, N.C.; daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Coston and husband Jeffrey of Suffolk; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Carrie, Brian, Kyle, Sean, Chase and Zack Nimmo, and Heather and Megan Coston; and sister, Doris Jeanne Peck of Alaska. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Suffolk Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Rebecca P. Lesley. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. Friday at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Karen V. Stanley presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suffolk Presbyterian Church, 410 N. Broad St., Suffolk, VA 23434. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
