Dorothy Mansfield Obituary

Dorothy H. Mansfield CHESAPEAKE - Dorothy Helen "Dot" Mansfield, 83, entered into eternal rest Oct. 21, 2009. Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Tunkhannock, Pa., Dot was the daughter of the late Stanley and Beatrice Fargo and was the wife of 54 years to Harold (H.T. Mansfield), who passed away in June 2009. Dot leaves her son, Mark T. Mansfield and his wife Jill Mansfield of Chesapeake; and her son, Bruce E. Mansfield and his wife Kelly Mansfield of Virginia Beach; along with two grandsons, Brian Mansfield and Neal Mansfield; one granddaughter, Molly Mansfield; a sister, Mabel Hadsall and family of Tunkhannock; a sister, Alice Kibler and family of Mountain Home, Idaho; and a brother, Stanley Fargo and family of Tunkhannock, to honor her name. Dot was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Edward Fargo. Dot fought for the values of our country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Women's Army Corps, both stateside and in Yokahama, Japan, and with the office of the U.S. Army Provost Marshall and Investigation Division and is responsible for the freedoms that we enjoy today. She followed her military service by working for National Airlines in New York City and in Norfolk, prior to her marriage and the beginning of her family. Dot was a faithful member of Indian River Baptist Church in Chesapeake, having been baptized in 1959 and served her Lord faithfully in many capacities to include Sunday school teacher and numerous church committees. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother who always sacrificed self for others. "His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" Matthew 25:21. Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake, is handling cremation arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be made to her memorial fund at Indian River Baptist Church in Chesapeake. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Sentara Leigh Hospital and Heartland Home Health and Hospice for their many special acts of kindness. A Celebration of Dot's life is planned for Indian River Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, followed by a time together for fellowship in the church fellowship hall. Rest peacefully, Dot, good and faithful servant.
