Faith Nusbaum Obituary

Faith W. Nusbaum NORFOLK - Faith W. Nusbaum died Oct. 26, 2009. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, her family moved to Youngstown, Ohio shortly thereafter. She attended public schools, graduating from high school in 1943. She obtained a B.A. degree in art/history and studio art from Smith College in 1947 and married Sidney L. Nusbaum II, her husband of 62 years, the afternoon of graduation at the Smith Alumnae House. She lived in Norfolk until 1952 when she moved back to Youngstown for 25 years where Mr. Nusbaum joined and managed the insurance agency of his father-in-law, Ralph M. Wilkoff. During those years, Faith became a licensed insurance agent in the state of Ohio, president of Rodef Sholom Temple Sisterhood, a board member of District 8 of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, Chairman of Services of the Blind. She was a member of the Butler Institute of American Art and on the board of its auxiliary, Friends of American Art, member of the Ohio Association of Insurance Agents, Planned Parenthood, life member of the Smith College Alumnae Association, and the Brandeis University Women's Organization. In 1976, the Nusbaums sold their insurance agency and in 1977 moved back to Norfolk where they opened their antique shop, "Family Tree Antiques". It was Faith's full- time job until they retired in 1986. Her special interest, besides the arts and antiques, had been travel. She and her husband were most fortunate to have done a great deal since their first trip in 1957, making many friends along the way. They have taken trips by land and sea, independently and with museums and alumnae groups, Decorative Arts trust symposiums in the United States, Oxford Study Tours in England, as well as on business when they had their shop. They are members of the Masterpiece Society of the Chrysler Museum, Norfolk Society of the Arts and the Hermitage Foundation Auxiliary. In 2007 they made the extremely happy and fortuitous move to Harbor's Edge in Norfolk. Faith is survived by her husband, Sidney and her dear, devoted daughter, Cynthia N. Katz and her husband Stuart E. Katz, as well as several cousins in Ohio, Texas and Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Chrysler Museum of Art, the Virginia Symphony, WHRO or any charity of choice. A memorial service will be held Friday at noon at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel, with Rabbi Rosalin Mandelberg officiating.
