Melba White Obituary

Melba Black White PORTSMOUTH - Melba Black "Blackie" White, 84, went to be with the Lord Nov. 5, 2009. Born in West End, N.C., she was a longtime resident of Portsmouth and the widow of Earl L. White "Monk" Sr. and G.W. Blue. Though a longtime member of Westhaven Baptist Church in Portsmouth, she moved to Charlottesville, Va., eight years ago due to failing health. She is survived by three sons, Ron Jackson and his wife Patricia Jackson of Centre, Ala., Rob Blue and his wife Brenda Blue of Mechanicsville, Va., Lannie White and his wife Suzanne White of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Jennifer Blue Staples and her husband Brian Staples, Paul Jackson, Leigh Ann Jackson Gallagher and her husband Rick Gallagher, Jeffrey Blue and his wife Angela Blue, Jillian Blue Surace and her husband James Surace, Caleb White and his wife Maura White, and Erin White; four great-granddaughters, Christian Jackson, Madison Blue, Riley Staples and McKenna Blue; and two great-grandsons, Jackson Gallagher and Jacob Gallagher; and a sister, Mary Blue. A memorial service will be held at Fairfield Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsville, Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Fairfield Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 6930 Cold Harbor Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. Friends may sign the guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.
