Wendell Newby Obituary

Wendell A. Newby Jr. BEAR, Del. - Wendell A. Newby Jr. of the 200 block of Cocoa Cay Lane slipped away from his earthly home and went to his eternal home Nov. 8, 2009. Born in Norfolk, he was retired from Delmarva Power and Light after 35 years of service. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State College (NSU). Survivors include his wife, Ada L. Newby; one daughter, Gennell Newby-Graves; one son, Wendell Newby Jr. (Amy); two sisters, Angela Gamell (David) and Carmelita Laing (Robert); two brothers, George Newby (Erma) and Vincent Newby Sr. (Christine); and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wilmington, Del.

Mr. Newby was the best. I saw him last when he was visiting my grandmother. He always had a smile, a joke, and a hug.
