Theophilus P. Delianides VIRGINIA BEACH - Theophilus Philip Delianides, 84, passed away Nov. 15, 2009, in Virginia Beach. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on Jan. 10, 1925. He is survived by his ever- loving and caring wife of 53 years, Dorothy Lazanas Delianides; two sons, Dr. Aris P. Delianides (wife Jackie) of Virginia Beach and Dr. Theodore P. Delianides (wife Kathryn) of Boulder, Colo.; two grandsons, Christopher and Michael Delianides; two brothers, Paul A. Delianides (wife Anna) of Mansfield, Ohio and Socrates A. Delianides (wife Dorothy) of Reno, Nev.; brother-in-law, Speros M. Karas of Ashland, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, Malamo and Aristides Delianides and sister, Mary Delianides Karas. Phil's military service during World War II included basic training with the 88th Glider Infantry Regiment as an Army Air Corps Cadet and service with the 75th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 75th and wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. Upon leaving the service, Phil attended The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Phil went to work for the federal government in 1954 as a cartographer for the USAF Chart Research Division in the District of Columbia. Thereafter, he pursued a career in military intelligence in the D.C. area with the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Office of Naval Intelligence, and the Naval Intelligence Command's Naval Intelligence Support Center. Phil retired from NISC in 1982 and fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Philomont, Va., to tend his gardens and orchards and enjoy the beautiful countryside. In retirement he was an active volunteer, serving on the Purcellville Library Board of Trustees and working with the Leesburg Chapter of the Salvation Army. He participated for many years in various retired and senior volunteer programs of Loudoun County including the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Program (VICAP). Phil was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Norfolk; AHEPA Robert E. Lee Chapter No. A122 of Norfolk; and Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 120 AF & AM of Alexandria, Va. A visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 19, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, with a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. A funeral will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 7220 Granby Street, Norfolk, Friday, Nov. 20, at 11:30 a.m. with internment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. A private reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Benevolent Fund.
