Kerry Bass Obituary

Kerry James Bass CHESAPEAKE - Kerry James Bass, 67, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 5, 1942 in Elizabeth, La., the son of the late Sidney G. Bass and Irene S. Gatchell. He was a founding member of the Beekeepers Guild of Southeast Virginia and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk. Kerry was a former leader of the Boy Scouts of America in Baton Rouge, La. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn; his two daughters, Melissa Watermolen and husband Stephen, and Allison Klemp and husband Bud; his son, David and his wife Christina Bass, all of Chesapeake; also surviving are his nine grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Michael, Brooke, Sarah, Caroline, Thomas, William and Joshua. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, 820 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, 23507. The Rev. Valena Hoy will officiate. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Memorial donations may be made in Kerry's name to First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk c/o Living Waters Ministry. WE WERE SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT KERRY,HE WAS A GREAT FRIEND ALWAYS MADE EVERYONE LAUGH ESPECIALLY ME DURING THE RAFFLE AT THE BEE MEETINGS I MADE SURE HE GOT THE FIRST TICKET EVERY MONTH.HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

Dear Melissa and Allison,

I remember your dear, sweet father from our time spent as neighbors on New Zealand Reach. Boy does that seem like a lifetime ago! You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. I, too, lost my father right before Thanksgiving 7 years ago! I know that the holidays will be challenging! Try and find the joy that your father's smile always seemed to bring!
