Jay Gabor Obituary

Jay K. Gabor VIRGINIA BEACH - Jay K. Gabor, 80, born in San Francisco in 1929, proud to be a third generation Californian, died Nov. 16, 2009, after a brief illness. He was predeceased by Gladys Hague Gabor, his wife of 38 years; Julie Gabor, his wife of six years; his granddaughter, Elise Gabor; and great-grandson, Dominic Marzitello. Jay served in the U.S. Navy for two years before the age of 18, then served for 23 years during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam before retiring as senior chief petty officer lithographer's mate. He was the first printing instructor at Norfolk VoTech, and also worked as Regional Property Manager for the Runnymede Corp. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, a lifetime member of FRA and VFW, a member of the Masons 32nd Degree and of Khedive Shrine, Past Cmdr. SASA, Legion of Honor, and a member of Sojourners. He is survived by three children, Bonnie Startt and her husband Lee, John Gabor, and Linda Gabor; his stepchildren, Bobbie Harris, Lynda Lortie, Wanda South, and David Crouch; five grandchildren, Andie Gabor, Jason Startt and his wife Dani, Anne Marzitello and her husband Joe, Lauren Gabor and Emily Gabor; great-grandchildren, Devon Gabor, Cole and Drew Startt and Sophia and Michael Marzitello. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jay's memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children at 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320.

As a student in the Data Processing Class at Vo-Tech in 1968-69, I would like to offer my condolences to the family. Although, we did not know a lot of the other teachers, we did see them in the halls. Being part of that first year class was really special.
