Katherine Smith Obituary

Katherine S. Smith VIRGINIA BEACH - Katherine S. Smith, 88, passed away peacefully Nov. 21, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 11, 1921 to the late Alpheus and Mary Lois Sykes in Norfolk. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Alpheus Smith Sr. and wife Barbara, George Smith Jr. and wife Donna; a daughter, Gail Harris and husband Don; six grandchildren, Rocky Smith and wife Ryan, Jennifer Jo Smith, Sonny Smith and wife Joy, David Smith and wife Ryane, Philip Smith, and Katie Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Katie Harris, Jason Harris, Madisyn Ross and McKenzie Ross. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 50 years, George S. Smith Sr. and a grandson, Jeffrey Harris. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at Rosewood- Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home.
