Monie S. Hecht NORFOLK - Monie S. Hecht, 74, daughter of the late Al and Ruth Swaine of Washington, D.C., passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at a local hospital. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Leon J. Hecht; three children, Lori Hecht-Thomson and husband Kevin of Raleigh, N.C., Michael S. Hecht and wife Ronnie of Richmond, Va., and Scott Hecht and wife Susan of Cary, N.C.; five grandchildren, Sarah, Jaimi, Ellis, Erin and Mitchell Hecht; two sisters, Susan Lyon and Karen Maged, both of Bethesda, Md. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Adrienne Kaufman of Rockville, Md. Shortly after moving to Norfolk, Mrs. Hecht became active in many women's organizations. Aside from being a devoted mother, her passion for golf and tennis was just one of the many ways she celebrated life. She was a member of Congregation Beth El and leaves behind a legacy of love to all. Her generosity was second to none, and knowing her was to love her. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Gordon Piltch. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will observe shiva services at the residence and will receive friends Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. They ask that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or favorite charity.
